Who is CJ ADLER?
Just your average twenty-year-old using writing to escape the realms of reality. If I’m not spending my days running around after children, you’ll find me stuck in the middle of yet another hilarious family debate that I may or may not have started. As a true dreamer and an optimist at heart, my goal in life is to take on the world and do something unforgettable. I aspire to make others laugh and enjoy a good sense of humor. I’ve made it my personal mission to embrace as many people as I possibly can. I hope to make an impact through comedy and hopefully leave a footprint of love wherever I go.

Do you have any amazing stories about your fans? Any favorite fan stories?
” I’ve been asked by fans where I live so that they can come to visit and befriend me, that’s if I’m anything like my character ‘Aqueela’. On the other hand, I’ve also been threatened, jokingly of course, that I’ll be hunted down if I don’t let Aqueela end up with Jay. My fans are sending me messages of encouragement which I always appreciate. I love the interaction with them. I have creative fans who write one-shots that I love reading and fans who send me drawings or banners for my book.
My fans always seem to know about Wattpad competitions before me. I log onto my account, only to find that I’ve been nominated for a competition. I don’t even have to ask for support because the next thing I know, my fans are all voting for my story. The support from them is incredible! They congratulate me before I even know that I’ve won. It’s awesome!
My favorite fan story, however, would be a group of my readers (you know who you are) from Wattpad who wrote a book on killing off one of my characters so that Jay and Aqueela could finally be together. They wrote themselves into my story as characters of their own. It was hilarious!”
What’s your favorite thing about being a writer?
Being able to escape reality and enter the realms of my own world where I’m free from the stresses of daily life. It’s a world where I rule 😀
Who is your favorite character that you wrote?
Landon Kitler. He’s a temperamental character that isn’t fazed by much. I enjoy writing about him because he’s so different from me.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember, even before high school. However, I only realized that I wanted to be a writer in 2015 when I won a ‘Watty Award’ for my book ‘Pause’.
Do you have any fun facts about your book?
“The main message of ‘Pause’ focuses on the significance of true friendships and not teen romances.
Some of the characters from ‘Pause’ are based on people I know.
A lot of the scenes in ‘Pause’ have actually happened in my life, but the scenes in ‘Pause’ are exaggerated.
A lot of the comebacks used in ‘Pause’ transpired from my cousins/siblings first.”
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Writing energizes me when I’m writing for myself only. I like to vent through my stories. When I write for others it can be demanding. That’s when writing exhausts me.
What is your favorite quote?
“In life, do everything that you do to the very best of your ability.’ ~ My mom
I’ve heard it since a kid and I’ve lived it since a kid.”
Who do you say has inspired you the most?
My grandfather was a writer. Whenever I visited him, he’d be writing by hand. He’d have papers all over his table. He was always working. I’d like to think that I’m following in his footsteps.
What advice do you have for aspiring authors out there?
“It may sound cheesy but this is honestly how I’ve succeeded:
Persistence is key. NEVER give up. Giving up is not in my nature. I don’t allow room for it.
If you’re going to write, start by writing for yourself and not for others. Your motivation shouldn’t be in others because that kind of motivation dies quickly. You’re not immediately going to jump to fame. It took me 4 years before my works started getting popular. Be patient and be prepared to work hard for it.
Have a writing routine and stick to it. Check grammar and spelling. I, among many others, am immediately put off by poor grammar and spelling. Practice really does make perfect.
Accept all kinds of criticism. Don’t take it personally. Use the criticism to better yourself.”
What’s your favorite part of your own book?
My favorite part of my story, ‘Pause’, is when Jay drops Aqueela down a flight of stairs in shock after she confesses to liking him. It was just fun to write about — Jay’s reaction is out of the ordinary.
Do you have a writing routine? If yes, what is it?
Yes, I do. I write for two/more hours every single day after work — usually at night or late afternoons. The only day that I don’t write is on a Sunday.
Who is your favorite author and why?
I like too many authors to pin it down to one favorite author. However, the author that always inspires me and moves me through his writing is David Platt. He’s an unconventional choice but it will have to be him.
What are you writing now?
I’m working on the sequel of ‘Pause’. Surprise, surprise, it’s called ‘Rewind’. I may also be working on some top-secret spin-offs of some of the characters from these books 😉
What inspires you to write?
“I find inspiration in anything and everything — mostly, in people and in their life stories/ struggles. I’m inspired by family and friendships, especially when writing ‘Pause’. I’m always inspired by comedic events as well. I love to laugh and I love to make others laugh.”
